The PlayStation 2 Game System
PS2, also known as PlayStation 2, is a video game console created by Sony. It was initiated on April 1999 as a successor for the PlayStation 1. The game console was first released on March 4, 2000 in Japan and October 26, 2000 in the United States. From then on, it became the most famous sixth generation era console.
PlayStation 2's first model was the SCPH-5000x model. However, Sony decided to stops its production in the summer of 2004 to give way to the smaller PS2 version. This caused the company to have an unlimited supply of the unit which resulted to product shortages in many retail stores. In fact, more Xbox console items were sold than the PS2 during the 2004 Christmas season.
The 28-bit "Emotion Engine"-powered PlayStation 2 has a backward compatibility with its predecessor, the PlayStation 1. PS2, with a clock speed of 300 MHz, can also play CDs and DVDs with a playback feature. In addition, it can hold memory cards and joypads based on the PS1 format. At present, PS2 has twelve different versions.
PlayStation 2's hardware specifications include a Floating Point Unit working at 6.2 gigaflops, Bus speed of 3.2 Gigabytes per second, Graphics of 4 MB VRAM and 150 MHz, 640x480/320x240 resolutions with a 24-bit color, Audio Memory of 2 MB RAM, Main memory of 32 MB RDRAM, an Operating System powered by Sony, and an Anti-aliasing geometry engine. Other PS2 attributes are its 2 memory cards and 2 USB ports. The system also supports the iLink FireWire port.
The top three most profitable PS2 games are the Devil May Cry 3, Gran Turismo 4, and the James Bond 007: Everything or Nothing.
Some of PS2's network games are All-Star Baseball 2005, Battlefield 2: Modern Combat, Call of Duty: Finest Hour, Dance Dance Revolution Extreme 2, ESPN NBA Basketball, and the Final Fantasy XI: Chains of Promathia.
